Papa, what’s a Histogram?

I’ve been involved with a couple of photography groups where the members have different levels of experience, expertise, and knowledge. One recurring theme amongst those newer to photography is confusion when the more experienced members discuss post-processing. Specifically, what are you talking about with all these sliders?!?
